Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease are two of the primary inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs).  Ulcerative colitis primarily affects the colon and the rectum while Crohn’s primarily affects both the colon and the small bowel. However, inflammation may be present anywhere in the GI tract and may affect the entire thickness of the bowel wall.  Both diseases are chronic in nature and tend to relapse.  Traditional treatments for IBDs are surgical, anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant medications (corticosteroids for example), antibiotics, anti-diarrheal, pain relievers, and supplements.

How Oxford Recovery Center Can Help

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy decreases inflammation, oxygenates the entire body, stimulates the growth of new healthy blood vessels, and releases stem cells, up to 800% more after twenty sessions In ulcerative colitis, the oxygenation of tissues, reduction in inflammation, and increase in circulating stem cells all work together to promote healing of the mucosa.  Research shows a high rate of complete healing of complications related to Crohn’s Disease such as fistulas and pyoderma gangrenosum without requiring surgical interventions.
